Just curious - how "crunchy" are you?

Have a look in the Mums Things section, there's a few threads about CSP there. I personally prefer BV topped wool backed pads.

My personal favs are bv top with wool back (nice and natural, I don't really like the idea of minki, etc. find cotton goes stiff over time and doesn't feel as nice.) At a push I'll go for fleece backing, has to be bv topped though.

We're not very crunchy really

recycle everything [possible, cans, bottles, cardboard etc etc
Cloth nappies
Compost bin (I didn't think you could put cooked food on them though )
All our light bulbs are energy ones so we live in darkness
All our appliences are AA rated, even better than A
was at 30, nappies at 60 though
Our milk gets delivered from our local farm, we can see the cows from our bedroom
I don't drive so "car share" with friends if I go out
get our meat and veg from the farm
Our children share a taxi to school with other kids locally (council provided)
I use washable wipes as often as poss but don't have a spray bottle to use when I am out
re-use plastic bags
Keep thermostat to a min
Our house is extremely well insulated



I stopped using ecover washing powder cos it stinks terrible and I'm afraid I use cilit bang cleaner and bleach, I find they are the only things that really work.

Kirsty, the bokashi system means we can compost cooked food, everything really, even bones (although we've not tried them!).

I didn't get on with Ecover either. We use http://www.simplywashing.com/ for washing and dishwashing. It's supposed to be more eco than Ecover and I find it works very well. I have many friends who use it, my mum uses it, and I've yet to hear a complaint from them.

Wipes when out - take a bottle of water Or find a tap!

Out of interest what does every one find best for cleaning, I am sure cilit bang is very non eco but we must be minks as I find it best for cleaning the bath and the gazillion shower tiles!!

I use white vinegar for practically everything. For cleaning the oven I use Dr Beckmann (I think) spray, doesn't stink to high heaven, but does a good a job. There's an Australian cleaning brand that's pretty eco, but does ok, can't remember the name now though. I damp dust with a cloth and water.

My mum gave up chemical cleaners and happened to buy one again a year or so later and noticed such a huge difference - she came out in a rash, it affected her breathing. Just goes to show what's in those things.

We do our best though and that is all we can do!

We can all do more though Nic, that's one the reasons I started the thread, for more ideas to improve on Anything is better than nothing, but if we open our minds and make tiny changes we can make a big difference.
