The other thing is how often you given them a bath. Babies that are that are bathed every day are far more likely to have skin problems. Twice a week is plenty as water can be very drying too.

I read a report recently regarding excema and baths and it said there was no truth in baths daily causing any more problems as long as ointments were applied correctly and enough. This was based on babies/children who already had excema.

I've found that since we do bath more regularly Zach's skin clears up faster when his excema gets so bad from the heat it ends up infected.

We do not tend to bath daily all year round but during the summer months when his skin is at its worse it does seem to help - but we tend to do quite cool baths and they always have his ointments in them.

I was referring to it increasing the likelihood of babies getting eczema not making existing conditions worse.

Hot(er) water is worse though as it makes their skin even drier.

I remember the MW at antenatal class saying about johnsons wipes, she asked if any of us had ever used a wipe, on our lady parts that is, and she was ssaying about how it stings, I imagine that many of the chemicals are similar in the lotion too.
With regards to the chemicals and their dangers, parabens and sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate have been found in cancerous growths, I don't trust the fact that they are only really tested on animals too. Although that is another sory for another thread.

I know this thread is a few months old, but I've discovered a love of Burts Bees products, especially the sweet apricot bath/massage oil - they're pricey, but to me its worth it when I smell my baby's head and he smells of delicious apricots :D I got a little trial pack as a present, and the soaps and baby lotion it in are lovely too. My LO's only get bathed once or twice a week anyway, so the bottles last ages. Green People products are good too, and you can often get discount codes for them.

You can also make your own bath stuff, these are some examples:
- 1/2 cup full fat milk with a few drops lavender essential oil added (nice for bedtime)
- handful of oats tied up in some muslin, perhaps with some dried herbs or lavender/cammomile flowers, or essential oils. Hang or tie it from the hot tap while the water is running, or use it like a bar of soap to wash. Very moisturising!
- Liquid castille soap can be used for making body wash, shampoo or bubble bath.
- For older children, you could make some bathbombs and add herbs or essential oils instead of nasty synthetic fragrances.

And all of the above are good for yourself too

This is why I refuse to use wipes on Kacie. I used one on me once when I'd used the loo only to find there was no toilet paper in there and   it made my eyes sting. Kacie was only a few weeks old and I swore then no more baby wipes were going near her bottom, or any other part of her if I can help it

I've heard of people using baby wipes to clean up motorcycle parts and stuff like that. If you can use them for that then surely they're not good for skin, let alone babies skin!

Two brands I'd suggest are Earth Friendly Baby, and Weleda. Weleda is more "natural" and has less ingredients so might be more suitable if sensitive skin is involved. EFB stuff smells lovely though and my girls with eczema did get on ok with it.
