I always get a potatoe cut in half and plant it. I plant carotts, parsnips, strawberries, tomatoes. It's great fun.

The potatoes is the easiest one, just cut a pot in half and stick it in the ground, it will grow and flower and when the flowers are dead you can harvest and eat your new potatoes. Tada!!
Strawberries you buy yound plant in homebase and buy one of those special pots which are like a big urn but with holes everywhere.
