Yes, we've always grown from seeds. And they've always been outside (they would end up tipped out if they were indoors I'm sure!), dh made a polytunnel-type thing by folding a sheet of plastic over and tying it into a tunnel shape to keep the cold off a bit.

They probably took a bit longer to germinate outside, but grew fine in the end.

This year we're growing tomatoes, courgettes, butternut squash, rhubarb, plums, cherries, more tomatoes, baby sweetcorn, herbs, lettuce and more tomatoes. We aren't bothering with potatoes after having 2 years of rubbish crops and Andy has decided that he wants to grow blueberries and raspberries instead.

There are lots of rasberries growing on hedges around the fields near us, so we just go for a little walk and collect a bag full every few days :D

Our veg is let to sprout outside (in the old cow shed, as it is sheltered), and when they have sprouted, they get put in the ground - no tunnel or greenhouse, so we can't grow tomatoes or anything that needs the warmth, but we can still grow a lot.
