yuk!!! i hate nits!! had them a few times when i was at primary school and it was horrible. one of my friends little ones had nits the other week. i can't stop thinking about it and it makes me itch!! keep getting hubby to check my hair but there is nothing there, just the thought. have checked the kids and they are fine. bought in a comb and solution just in case. good to know about the vosene though. want to be prepared.

Hairdryers kill nits. Blow dry his hair regularly.

That's what I read, and that'll expalin why my DD has never had them yet *touches wood*.

I had them bad when I was a teenager, the only thing which killed them was black hair dye. I am NOT recommending the goth look for littleuns!!

LOL @ Mrs-K

I'm a fan of the Nitty Gritty comb, it's the only one I've used that gets all of the eggs out without tears and tantrums (so long as you use some conditioner to lubricate the hair shaft)
We use it similar to SKatey - once a week or so to check for anything and been nit free for ages now.
There is a child in pretty much every class, I've found, whose parents will not check or treat lice and the poor little soul keeps on reinfecting everyone else.

Tea tree definately repels them, there was a herbal spray I used to buy when Jake was at private nursery (many years ago now) that contained teatree oil as a repellant. I used to spray it on before taking him, pretty much like a shine spray or something, I guess you could make your own actually, I found it very effective :)

  Mrs K!!!!

I tend to zap them with shampoo (not sure what it is!), use the nit comb and then while they are still around the school(or he hasn't caught them yet) I pat his hair with lavender oil, apparently they HATE it and he has never had them while using this!
