Shower screen cleaner

Postby Shaunie » Tue Jun 29, 2010 11:44 am

My shower screen enclosure desperately needs a good clean  , especially before the MIL comes to stay

What could I make myself to use?

I've always cleaned glass with white vinegar and scrunched up newspaper. Trick my grandpa taught me, and it works fabulously.

I just did my new showerscreen with one of those microfibre cleaning cloths - the smooth one meant for glass, not the more fluffy dusting one. I used it bare to start with but there was too much limescale for that to work well. I then dipped a bit in vinegar and wiped over with that - it was sparkling new in about 90 seconds.

I've also found that old muslin cloths are quite good at getting things sparkly, so if you don't have a microfibre one you could try a muslin and vinegar.

If it's limescale marked then vinegar or lemon juice should do the job. I'd probably wipe it on all over, leave for a while then wipe off and rinse well.

We use the Method shower spray in our bathroom, works very well.

We too use microfibre cloths for glass - Lidl does the best one I've found, a white one, comes in a two pack I think (not bought new for ages). Use simply with water, wipe with the rougher side, then again with the smoother side.

Yes, it's limescale marked so white vinegar it is then. I've seen method products but never tried them so maybe I shall get some for general shower cleaning rather than when it's really bad

I have muslins knocking around somewhere but will get some m/f cloths. Now you've said it, I remember my Mum telling me that they used to use vinegar to clean windows :)

The Method spray that you put on after a shower and leave is good. I'm not so keen on their actual bathroom cleaner though - gets to the back of my throat like full-on chemical cleaners do as I'm not used to them. I tend to use white vinegar 50/50 with water in a spray bottle for most cleaning.

That's why I've not cleaned it properly in ages because DH bought the spray cleaner last time - full of chemicals & feel like I'm choking when I use even a little bit
