Do you do a cold rinse/wash first? When I changed my washing machine, the prewash was at 30 rather than cold and I found it made a huge difference to the amount of staining...and really set in the smells! :puke:
Also, washing at 60 really does improve the cleaning power of soap nuts. (My reckoning is that if your electricity is from a renewable source, then the chemicals in conventional washing powders do more harm to the environment than the production of the electricity does.)

Where did you get yours from? these didnt smell or anything x

I can't remember off the top of my head! I emailed the lady and she assured me that this 'brand'/breed of soapnut is meant to be sticky etc. I just didnt rate them for washing. I put about 7 nuts in, on a 40 wash and didnt use time saver either and they came out like they'd gone in (but wetter obviously :giggle: )

Soapnuts that have gone sticky have been exposed to the air or stored in damp or humid conditions. It doesn't mean they have gone off, just that the saponins have already been released so they won't work as well (as you have already found out).

I use 3 or 4 but I live in a soft water area.

I thought that, but the lady I bought them off emailed me back with some links and they all said that certain soap nuts are sticky without being stored like that. Still didn't rate them. I'll stick to Bold 2-in-1 I think :(
