if it gets sticky it sounds like you're using too much detergent :?
Have you tried using something natural like vinegar?

Perhaps start a 'no shoes' in the house rule? Have slippers or 'house shoes'? That might help with the muck levels...

Still don't understand why you're buying a new mop head each week though :? I've got a vileda and we don't... :?

well I'm going to go against the grain and say I have one and is blinking brill! The thing doesn't get hot, just the end where the mop touchs the floor, it has a pad on the end that pulls off and you bung in the washer. My floors were sticky too and thats why I got one (albiet second hand) No more stickiness which is great. My kids make the floor sticky and a mop wasn't cutting it. The steam seems to lift off the stickiness. I would buy one :giggle: Oh and I use it when the kids are asleep, it doesn't make much noise
ETA I am another one who has to buy a new mop head at least every 2 weeks, 4 kids+man= rank floors!

I have heard good things about them but never tried.
Top quality floor manufacturers suggest that you only damp mop you floor anyway, ie don't use any product just good really hot water as you get product build up. I alternate between damp moping which actually does get the floor clean (we have wood flooring, which is wood on top and the stuff they put under laminate underneath so not madly expensive solid wood but better than laminate), just give the mop a really good squeeze out then mop and then every few times I use the Method floor cleaner (smells divine)

i have tried everything, even buying an outdoor scrubbing tall brush thing. honestly, the crud they drag in is unreal and it's only going to get worse in the winter.

steph they don't wear shoes half the time, this is the problem! catelyn has a bad habit of going out not realising her shoes are indoors, she's a nightmare, looks like a pauper child half the time bless her

I'm with Steph, the stickiness is due to too much Flash in the water. They have some steam mops at our costco at the moment, I was looking the other day and wondering how good they are.

:giggle: she would get on so well with Anna, we call her the tinker child, she will happily run about with no shoes or jacket on and comes in with her face streaked with dirt :giggle:

I have a polti steam cleaner, it is about the size of a Henry vacuum cleaner and same shape. TBH I can't remember the last time it came out the cupboard, as it is something that needs to be filled, heated and used. It was used more when the iron attachment was working. I just use a mop nowadays as I just bung it in the kitchen sink and use.

I used to use it loads and probably will again once we move, its just not that accessable at the moment.

I have got one :D I loved it when izzy was crawling as I felt like the floor was extra clean. If your mop head gets dirty though the pad on the steam mop will do the same thing. washable though.

If i want a big clean i mop first to get the grime off then steam mop to get it really clean. I use it with isobella around no problems, she just watches it. I am right there with her and its in my hand so its not like she can come to any harm.
