I may be going to the baby show this weekend after being given some tickets by a nappy retailer. I see the show exactly as Ruth says. They're the organizers and it'd be hippocritical of me to boycott because of them 'supporting' the arms trade when I'm married to a soldier, intact if it wasn't for such a thing he'd be put into a position where he doesn't have the equipment he needs to stay safe when he's sent overseas. :-?

The baby show could be run by another events organiser! I just don't get when people are being ethical about things, they can just brush this under the carpet. I'd of thought that some of the companys would of at least responded to emails sent out asking if they knew about all this.

Did anyone watch the video's?

He does some good ones on N&stle too! Mark Thomas loads on youtube! I think some of you will really like him.

I understand you want cloth to become more mainstream, I do too! I think everyone should use cloth. To be fair P$mpers and Hu***ies will be giving away samples. No one who makes cloth nappys are going to give away samples. So if people are interested they can't try before they buy, as the cloth nappy company's are too small to make this happen.

I know it's people trying to make money and all that. I just don't understand why no one responded.

had to have a bit of a think replying after it was flagged up on my facebook status, and it was discussed with me and sy and hun we came to the conclusion that we are not in any way supporting any arms stuff by going! it's just a babyshow, people need jobs, especailly in the current climate it's harder for most to pick and choose even if they wanted to. if it came down to putting food on the table or standing up on some ethical thing then sorry i think most would choose to put food on the table. someone else i asked about this said that it's like the labour party using a conference centre, but the conservatives refusing on the grounds that labour had used it. i might be wrong, but it's how it was explained to me.

But the arms fairs may supply arms to keep soldiers safe what about all the poor children who are killed because of the arms that have been sold? Landfll over lives......

There are always 2 sides. I can completely see that companies make a lot of money at these events and cloth nappy exposure is increased because of them. But isn't it slightly hypocritical?

Actually cloth nappy companies DO give away free samples - little lambs for example might not still do it but for a long while they would send you a free nappy provided you paid the postage...

Also did you know that Arms provided by DSEi which were supported by Clarion events brokered ARMs to countires with the most appalling human rights records?

Exactly. Privatised legal arms deals, selling arms legitimately out of the UK and Europe to countries like the Congo, Zimbabwe, Rwanda which have been used in genocide and atrocities killing hundred of thousands of people and to regimes who's human rights records are appalling. Slightly different ethical faux pas than giving & marketing formula to 3rd world countries.

It is an ethical contradiction by the organisers and also the people that exhibit and attend then too if next week they are running an arms show in the same space for example.
