Soap nuts

Postby ericaj1 » Sat May 12, 2007 6:54 pm

Does anyone use soap nuts? I tried them but don't know whether they'd do heavy duty stains. I hope someone uses them with no probs as I'd prefer to use them than keep using polluting washing powder/liquid.

I was hoping you'd get an answer from someone who has tried them!! I haven't myself, I did look into them but read quite mixed reviews so haven't as yet, I still wouldn't mind. I wonder where is cheapest to get them from?

I haven't used them, but am hugely skeptical tbh.

On the whole they come from Nepal. Having lived there for 2 years my scepticism is as based on anumber of factors, not least that I wouldn't believe that

1. they were "farmed" or collected with any care to the enviroment or ecology
2. that they were not harvested at stupidly low rates of pay, probably by children.

I say nothing about the levels of clenliness of clothes seen on a daily basis either.

Sorry if I sound sceptical or harsh...but having lived it?

Tried them about a year ago, wasn't impressed.
Can wash with plain water and get the same results in my opinion.
And they maked spots on the white towels, so I trew them away and won't use again.
But I heard lots of stories of people who love it.
Also tried to make washing liquid with the nuts.......well it didn't work any better.
