Paper shreddings?

Postby tracedw » Tue Nov 08, 2011 4:13 pm

I'm having a huge de-clutter and going through the office sorting all papers and documents , i have the paper shredder working overtime but now have a few bin liners of shreddings, im not sure what to do with them, i dont really want to bin or burn them, anyone have any environmentally friendly ways of getting rid.
Thanks

Compost here too. Or we put them out with the recycling.

I had considered that, we have 3 large wooden bins, but the amount i have will most probably turn to mush,i suppose i could add a few handfuls each time i take the veg peelings out.

Do you empty the shreddings into the bin or do you chuck the whole bag in instead?

I would dig a load in with the compost every now and then, or as you say put a few handfuls in each time you go out.
As for the recycling, it might depend on how your council will take them, do they say anything on their site. I think we put a bagful out with the paper bin, but we compost first so rarely have any to go out.

Ours goes out with the recycling!
If there's too much for the paper bin that fortnight then I drop it off at the local recycling depot when I'm passing!

We dont have a dedicated bin for paper, i would have to put the shreddings into the normal recycling bin without the bag, just too much potential mess, especially if the wind blows the bin over (our lane is very exposed surrounded by fields)

Oh. We have a dedicated bin for paper. Does your council offer special paper recycling bags? Some do.
Might just be worth a trip to the nearest recycling depot then. Saves it al being blown around by the wind. Sounds a nightmare! We're lucky to have 4 bins (garden, paper, normal domestic waste & then one for tin/plastic/glass/aerosol recycling)
