Covering elastic inside clothes?

Bit of a random request/ enquiry probably, but here goes?
I'm seriously allergic to latex (anaphylactic style!)
Up till now I've been semi-OK with elastic in clothes - but recently I've been having serious reactions on my upper arms to elastic inside my tops.
They are the style that have gathered cuffs on shoulders (IYKWIM)

I admit they are cheap tops! So the elastic is bare under and in direct contact with my skin.

Do I have any options for covering it up/ hiding it within the material.
My sewing skills are basic (and have no sewing machine!)

Or do I admit defeat and get rid of the tops (which is a same coz I love them!)

Any ideas/ advice appreciated!

Is it the clear elastic? Thats the stuff i have problems with. Unfortunately i just avoid tops with the clear stuff in. The only thing i could suggest is wonderwebbing some bias tape, but not sure if that would look fantastic.

I've been warned to stay away from the clear elastic - as that is likely to send me into a full collapsing reaction!
But this is the white/ black elastic (like knicker elastic)
Its never been a problem before - so have no idea whats happened to make me allergic all of a sudden.

Just hoping for some ideas to rescue my favourite tops!

errr....Id probably sew some fabric over it but its a bit hard to say if that would be easily doable without seeing where it is...shouldnt be too hard...do you have a local fabric type shop? Quite often they are owned by lovely ladies who do all sorts of clothing adjustments who would be able to help!

Anothersquish: I was also going to suggest a dressmaker/fabric shop.
Maybe rehemming them would work?

You should be able to cover them but you need to use stretchy fabric so that it will give with the elastic as you put them on. Otherwise if you aren't fussed about the gathered look it would be easy enough to remove the elastic and just have loose sleeves instead.

Could you get someone to replace the elastic with some that wouldnt bother you? Though it might end up costing you a fortune.
