Using wool with a newborn and Q about Junglegym pattern?

Postby 123princesssammie » Thu Apr 12, 2012 6:31 pm

Hey everyone, I'm trying to decide what size soakers and longies to knit next for bump,

So far I have done one pair of longies in newborn with a 14inch rise and 6inch inseam

And two soakers newborn which is 13.5 rise and 13.5 hips, 7inch thighs
And a small which looks huge lol, measuring 15.5inch rise and 16inch hips, 9inch thighs

Then a kind friend has knitted me a small pair of longies, and I have a pair of dungarees in small from Pixieknits on the way

Those that have used wool with newborns what age did they grow out of the newborn and small sizes please?

Baby is due in July thou and can't decide what sizes to do the next few items, either will be a pair of longies, and a pair of dungarees or two pairs of longies?? Then another soaker, and something else with the tons of scraps I have lol

Also has anyone knitted the 0-3mnths Junglegym overalls?? can I get a pair from 100g main and 25g trim?

Its difficult to say really as one WAHMs/patterns "newborn" size is more like anothers "smalls" 13.5" rise is on the larger side of newborn so should fit for a while. M's newborn soakers were 12" rise I think and fit until she was about 10/11lbs so 2-3 weeks old, same for newborn longies, they fit until about 5/6 weeks ish as they had a slightly higher rise (13-14 I think) It really depends on your babas weight at birth and how quickly they gain weight!!!

Thankyou hun, Alesha was 7lb 8.5oz but was in prem clothes for ages, think I may stick to doing them slightly bigger as atleast they will get more wear from them then :) x

personally i find babies until they are sitting/crawling u can get away with having much much higher rises, as their top just goes over the top and you cant see how high the waist band is.

my sons first pair went right up to his armpits and had a turn up at the bottom so we made them last a good 2-3 months :giggle:

Oh glad I saw this as hoping to get knitting as soon as we know babies sex, and wasn't sure what size/rise was best to do! As baby is due in October I am hoping to use wool over all fitteds to help keep him/her warm :D

I never used wool on my newborn, only wraps and started ds3 with wool when he was 6 months old so was making medium-large by then.
I made Shaunie longies for baby Emmet, he was 10lb at birth so made a small pair, 16 hip,15 rise and 6.5in leg and they didnt look to big, a nice bit of growing room but not huge.
