Woolies :)

Postby sophie90 » Tue Apr 24, 2012 10:12 pm

So.. Not only am I looking at making nappies/CSP/BP's I was also thinking of trying to knit some soakers, any idea where I can get decent patterns for these? Also what would be the best wool/yarn for doing so or does it not make too much difference?

I don't knit but there are stickies at the top of this section with lots of pattern links on and I'm sure the ladies that :knit: would be able to recommend a few. You have to use yarn with at least 80% wool content and make sure it is not superwash/machine washable wool. Personally I prefer my woollies made from merino aran, organic merino aran or BFL.

I use the snapdragon soaker pattern if I am making a soaker, its a great begginer pattern as you don't have to include short rows (link in the sticky) I use my own pattern for longies as I was never 100% happy. With any that I found elsewhere but there are lots out there. I think the majority of knitters on here are signed up to ravelry.com as it has a massive pattern library of paid and free patterns ;)

The Snapdragon soaker is good and an easy knit though I find it comes up small - find your size using your measurements and you will get a good fit :)

I agree with Louise with the yarn - I only use aran weight 100% Merino/Organic Merino/BFL really, or a heavier chunky yarn for night time soakers - I find these work best :) Lots of places to buy - PixieKnits is good for WAHM dyed, Colinette, Fyberspates, Cascade 220, Artesano and lots more commerical dyed :)

Good luck :knit:

My favourite retail wool yarn is freedom spirit, as it's 100% wool, which I think certainly has the edge over any mixture. It's also nice and soft. But most WAHM dies ones are nice as well. I prefer DK to chunky or aran, as it's so much less bulky in the finished item.
