Baby Blanket Pattern help

Postby Cyrillia » Mon May 07, 2012 8:06 pm

I'm trying to find a nice easy blanket pattern that would be good to knit up in either a rainbow stripe, or rainbow variegated yarn, but am struggling big time! I'm going cross eyed looking at Ravelry, and amd not sure where to start if I were to knit my own in garter stitch with regards to yarn quantities, etc...

Any advice appreciated! :D

I am currently making one for my sister which is basically a stocking stitch square which i will crochet a border round.

I can check gauge for you but i just did an educated guess at how many to cast on. measured the width after a few rows and the divided that by 6 (no. of colours) to figure out how high each block of colour should be. used dk yarn on 4mm needles. haven't weighed yarn yet but i have used approx 50g of each colour.

I have also made blankets where the border is knit at the same time as the blanket in a separate colour.

That sounds perfect - I'm thinking of doing it in just plain garter stitch. Do you know where I might be able to buy yarn in aran weight that would cater for all of the rainbow colours? :D

Thanks,
Sarah

Scratch that - I've ordered the Stylecraft Special DK too. :D May need a little assistance with a crochet edging. FC the yarn arrives soon!

I think stylecraft do aran weight as well but you have already ordered now  I am not quite sure how I will do the border yet. I was thinking either do a reverse single crochet row in each colour or maybe hold all the colours together and just do one row. Will see how I get on. I was hoping to be finished by Thursday as my other sister wants the steal the yarn but that much st st is a hard slog!

I bet! :D I did see their aran weight, but couldn't find it in the array of colours I wanted. I don't mind working in DK - it'll make a change to hold a small needle! Post a pic when you've finished yours - I bet it turns out beautifully! I was probably going to just do a single colour for the edging, but I have a thing for red so that's what I was planning on. :D

I was planning on aran originally too but it does seem much harder to get. :(

Forgot to say I have been slipping the first stitch of each row (knitwise for knit row and purlwise for a purl row) to give a nice edge to crochet into. I can't wait to be finished!
