Help me choose a colourway?

Postby Cyrillia » Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:50 am

I'd like to knit myself a Whippoorwill - http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/whippoorwill - as I've had the pattern for ages and just haven't gotten arround to it, but I just can't choose a colourway! I've been looking at Pixise Knits site, and there are loads of things I like on there - any recommendations for what would look good knitted up into this shawl? :D

I've got that queued too.

What sort of colours are you thinking of? I think it tends to look good with semi solids with a darker trim, but it depends on the look you like.

I think I would do one with semi-solid as the main part and colourway 'trim'

I do like 'reversy' projects like that, but the trim parts are thin, so the colourway might get a little lost if you chose the wrong one.

I think it would look good in colourway with trim. What colours do you like? I've been knitting PRism which is fab and has a navy trim, looks great.

Well, I am really stuck - I like the fact it can be made into a wraparound, so have been thinking of the colour clothes I wear a lot. I'd have to make one of the larger sizes for that though. If I went for a smaller size, it would probably end up being a scarf/breastfeeding cover, and I mainly go for khaki/greens.

One thing I find clothes-wise is that I am often in jeans - and I prefer dark wash jeans, so if the shawl went with those, then as long as I wasn't trying to team it up with something completely off the wall top-wise, it should work shouldn't it?

My thoughts were to either have a two colour affair, or one variegated yarn.

From Pixie Knits site, maybe these:

http://pixieknits.co.uk/index.php?main_ ... cts_id=463
http://pixieknits.co.uk/index.php?main_ ... ts_id=1266
http://pixieknits.co.uk/index.php?main_ ... ts_id=1232

With one of those colourways I could pick out a co-ordinating colour - perhaps with the first I could go for a navy trim, the second I could pick out the royal blue tones of the variegated yarn with a similar trim, and the same for the third?

Hmm, looking at those again now, I think I am liking the neptune colourway the most (the second link).

I'm being boring and doing this only in a semi-solid, although can't decide to add a variegated yarn as trim. I have MM red/black semi and some Rememberence.
