Old wool!

Postby DebbieP » Mon Sep 17, 2012 1:02 pm

My mum dropped round yesterday with some knitted blankets that people had knitted for me when I was born (32 years ago)! Now am wondering, are they likely to be real wool given the age of them or are they more likely to be acrylic or something along those lines? They have been handwashed as my mum doesn't want to ruin them in the machine and they have come out beautifully but am not sure what am going to do with them when / if (more likely when!) I need to wash them!

Any thoughts appreciated!

My mum has given me some jumpers which were knitted for me when I was a baby / child (I am 34) and they are a mixture of pure wool and acrylic. If you can't tell from the feel of them I would wash by hand to be on the safe side.

I handwash all our wool blankets including the acrylic ones. I use woolishous wool wash as it leaves them so soft.

Probably a mix of both. Tbh you would have to see them in person to be able to tell

I always hand wash my woollies whether pure wool or not. I think they keep nicer for longer that way :)
