Ouchy *cry*

Postby Mareth » Thu Sep 20, 2012 7:39 pm

I'm after starting to knit again after having a break of about a year, and my poor index finger and thumb are suffering for it  . I'm having to rebuild callouses on them and it's not fun, I have a tiny split in the skin on my thumb and it's sorrrrre BOOHOO! I think my choice of needles isn't helping my cause though, knitpro symfonies are sharp!

Is there anything I can do other than just keep going? I don't really want to put plasters on or anything as that's just delaying the inevitable  .

No point in posting really, I just need to tell people that understand my pain  . If I say it to DH he'll just tell me that if I'm looking for sympathy, it's in the dictionary, between s**t and sy**ilis :hohoho:

I knew you were going to say it was knitpros! They are lethal. I did put plasters on the hole in my thumb at first and it did help. It healed a bit tougher, and I changed my knitting style a wee bit I think.

They are lethal, aren't they!

I was fine with them before, but I'd been knitting for a few years with other needles before I got them and had presumably toughened up before I started with the knitpros.

This is what I get for stopping knitting I suppose

If you want to toughen skin you can put surgical spirit on it. My sister used to use it for cello playing.

Ooooh ouchy - yes I had holey fingers at the start with my Knit Pro's too - they did toughen with time and now I have calloused old woman hands :giggle: You know what you must do - knit more :knit: :whip: :giggle:

LOL I think just knitting more is the ultimate solution. I did take yesterday evening off (and went to bed early cos I had nothing else to do  )

DH suggested superglue, since that's what it was originally invented for, quick fixes on skin, but then we realised it normally contains cyanide, so not great in pregnancy

I was going to suggest superglue as my FIL who had haemophilia used to use it to stop the bleeds.
Not great if it poisons you though.

Might be worth putting something on until it heals tho as moist skin heals quicker - maybe try the spray plaster stuff?
