Babyboo is lovely and soft but I find it ticklish and would hate it around my neck. Merino Silk now, that is beautifully soft, as is organic merino if you don't mind handwashing. Another cheaper washable option, is Sirdar Supersoft aran which is really lovely and soft, and washable, its acrylic but not squeaky nasty acrylic.

I have just used Sidar supersoft for a scarf and glove set for Darcy and my niece and agree it is lovely and soft and you really wouldn't think it was acrylic its actually really nice to knit with, it comes in lots of lovely colours too  I actually plan to get some more ordered for a hat for bump at some point x

Debbie Bliss Cashmerino is lovely too. My softest yarn is probably that or MCN.

Yes, I was really surprised as all the other acrylic I have used before has been really squeaky on the needles and never felt as soft as pure wool, so its great if you're on a budget too! I may actually get round to getting all my recent knits pictures up at some point :giggle:

I used Debbie Bliss Cashmerino to make a baby blanket a few years ago and it was sooo beautifully soft. Not pure wool though, it's 55% wool, 33% microfibre, 12% cashmere

ETA: oops, cross posted with fivefourfour

If it's not too late, what about alpaca? That's even softer than merino
