Postby bunbun12385 » Sun Mar 03, 2013 8:50 pm

Has anyone else knit the puerperium sweater and found it to be massive? Cast on a 3-6m in dk on 4mm needles and it fits my nearly 18m old! Im really not sure whats happened, would it be better in aran, maybe?

I've knitted it in DK and it came out a perfect size.

If you did it in Aran - it would be bigger!

How does your gauge compare to the pattern? I'm a tight-ish knitter so my gauge is usually about right for most patterns

My gauge is 21 sts per 10cm, i knit tightly too so thought it would come out slightly smaller. Maybe my daughter has just got slimmer lol!

There is positive ease in the pattern, so if your DD is slender it might fit her - my DS (nearly 4) can still fit easily into size 2-3 tops around the chest, but the body and sleeves are comically short!

Is that your gauge generally for DK or on the specific yarn you are using? I find my gauge varies slightly with different yarn.

If I'm knitting for my two I have to alter the dimensions of the pattern.

My two are super skinny - but with long bodies, arms and legs.

So I tend to knit a smaller waist/chest size to match their measurements- but add length to the body/arms and legs so it fits them perfectly!

Although my latest knit (a something beautiful shrug) did look quite odd with a 9-12m chest size and 2yo long sleeves on it! It looked sooo out of proportion, but it fits her perfectly!

Thanks, everyone. I think I will just adjust the pattern for my next one, still the one I have made is super cute so im not exactly gutted that i will have to keep it for my daughter rather than gift it.
