Lanolizing new merino wool

Postby ClothBumBubba » Tue Apr 16, 2013 7:13 pm

Hi,
I have a lovely new pair of longies. The care instructions that came with them say not to soak for longer than about 20-30 minutes. Usually, I leave wool to soak over night in lanolin solution. Will they be OK to soak?
Also, do I need to soak them two or three times as it will be the first time they are lanolized, and do I need to dry them out in between each soaking?
I've never lanolized new before, all my other wool has been preloved.
Thanks!

TBH when I have had new woollies I soak them once, overnight and put in a bit of extra lanolin- they usually come out a bit sticky. I then use them a few times and relanolise sooner than I usually would.
No guarantees this is the 'correct' way though ;)

That's what I used to do too. You might just need to change the nappy a bit sooner.

I've never heard of only soaking for a max of 30 mins, not sure why that would be suggested tbh :? Usually it's at least that long and longer is absolutely fine. It might be worth checking with the manufacturer to find out why they've said that.

What they said :)

I'm really lazy :giggle: I never lanolised the extra 3 times when they are new  just pop them in with a bit extra lanolin over night,
When they are having a top up I tend to just soak them for an hour or two rather than over night and I have never had any problems but 30mins I wouldn't think would be long enough to absorb the lanolin xxx
