Controlled shrinking?

My mother has made my son a gorgeous cardigan in merino wool. The only trouble is, that after a relatively small amount of wear it has gone quite baggy and the knit is looser than ideal. Is there any way I can shrink it in a controlled way to make it both a tad smaller and also a bit denser? Thanks
