What wool for soakers?

Does it matter what type of wool you use? For example is alpaca or merino as effective as pure sheeps wool?

As long as it is at least 70-80% natural wool fibres then it will be ok.
And shouldn't have any nylon/silk etc as part of the mix

I prefer 100% wool - takes the lanolin better.

I've also always preferred Aran weight yarn because its thicker for woollies. You can use dk but I've found it doesn't last as long.
