Speak to me about woolies

Postby PixieFix » Sun Jan 18, 2015 8:28 am

I'm thinking to use wool at night instead of a pul wrap but I really don't have a clue. Do you use longies, shorties or a soaker and why? Can you put normal clothes over a soaker? And I'm worried she will over heat in the wool :-?

Hi there I've just started using wool myself so am gonna answer some of your questions and add some of my own!
You can use a soaker, shorties or longies depends on weather I suppose and whether you want to add other things on top. I have found fleece to be best over a wool soaker but have ordered some merino bottoms that were in sale to try them over top. Wool will be cooler than pul so in summer I will probably use just a soaker over nappy with vest. Now to my questions!
Am experiencing alot of dampness quickly if any normal clothes over wool. Also am having to super boost nappy more so than when using fleece covers, does that sound right? Nappy Seems soaked at back and dry at front, didn't experience this with pul was always soaked all over. IS this because baby doesn't move in sleep yet so is only evaporating at the front?
Thanks for any help!

We are wool fans. We mostly use Longies so they act as a nappy cover AND clothes. Wool is cooler than fleece or plastic. You can put normal clothes over a soaker. Make sure you have a decent nappy underneath and that you lanolise the woollies :)

I love wool.
I didn't discover it (or believe in its magic) until far too late with Jacob.
Ive been suing wool at night since birth with Percy, but he's still too small to use it in the day, as only his feet poke out of the bottom of a soaker!

I haven't yet @clothmama, she is just about to move into her size 2s so I thought I would wait until then. But am definitely going to try it! These comments have certainly encouraged me to take the plunge. I like the idea of a more breathable cover, especially now she is sleeping more at night. Thought I would try making this one:

Aww wee Percy, what a cutie! How's he doing @cuppachaplz?

Just want to point out that if you knit or crochet your own, make sure you use the right yarn. You need 100% wool and/or alpaca, and it must be hand ash only yarn. Yarn treated to be machine washable will not absorb lanolin, and will have all the natural lanolin removed from it.
