Help a newbie!

I can knit very very basicly but I really really want to make some thing's for Baby C so figured I'd start with a blanket. I have knitting needles but would would like to buy some new ones... What type/size would you recommend? I'd like it to be pram sized probably. Also if anyone can reccomend some nice (but reasonably priced) wool that would be great to!! Xxx

I made a gorgeous crocheted blanket when I was pregnant with Rémy and it was a lovely thing to do in the evenings. I'd recommend finding a pattern that you like then go from there. I love the one that Lynne made for Toby:
