I'm knitting away on the hips, and when the instructions say 'knit till work measures one inch less than half the desired rise, does that mean measure all of it from the top of the waistband, or from after the waistband? :-?

Thanks!

It doesn't really matter, just depends on whether you want the rise to include the waistband or not. For example, I like the waistband to be completely above the nappy, so I don't measure the waistband. But of course then the waistband ends up well above his belly button so he looks a bit like Simon Cowell. :giggle:

So it won't effect the fit if I decide to include the Waistband? I guess it depends how lazy I'm feeling then!

Not at all! I do that with my soakers and they fit just fine. I suspect that most people include the waistband.

Sorry, you're going to get bored of me soon!

I decided not to include the waistband as I think it'll look better with it above the nappy. However, I just wanted to check if making my longies a little bigger in the rise will effect their effectiveness? Atm Henry is about a 16" rise in his bamboozles, so I was thinking I'd make the rise 17" unstretched (plus waistband) will this be ok? Or should I stick to the 16"?

Thank you!

I would make it 16", only because you've still got the gusset to go and that adds length, plus the short rows in the back add lenght as well. So you'll probably end up with a rise of 17" anyways.

Back again.

I've done my gusset increase (well the main bit of it) and I'm about to divide for the legs, but I'm utterly confused how to do it, and how to stitch the crotch. I'm working on circulars. Do I need to still move the stitches between D and A onto spare yarn? Is it possible to graft the crotch together on circulars or am I better moving them onto DPNS? I'm about to go and google 'kitchner stitch' to see what that's all about!

Grafting the crotch is done once the longies are knitted. You use a darning needle to do it.

If you move the stitches onto spare yarn, then the next stitches available on the two needles of the circ should be the ones you need to graft. I graft them first, then knit the first leg.
