So I looked up on You Tube how to Wrap and turn on the right and wrong side so I think I figured that out...... So When it says Knit 44 am I wrapping the 44 st or the 45 then same as when I purl after turning am I wrapping the 44th or 45th which is past my marker at the beginning? I after I purl 44 it says to "turn and work so am I knitting a complete round? For the following round when I get to the gap left by short rows close them whatever method I prefer". what does that mean? Sorry for all the confusion!

You need to k44 then turn--so yes wrap the 45th stitch (when you are done wrapping the stitch should be back on your right hand needle and the purl side of the work is facing you). Then purl 44. Wrap the 45th stitch and turn so the knit side is back facing you. Close the wraps as I described in previous post on the next round.

I have my short rows done! Success!
Next the Hips I need to continue in Stocking St till work measures 1/2 desired rise length I'm not sure on to figure this out. So I cast on 88 stitches and this is for a baby wearing 3-6 months clothes.

Sorry for all the questions!

Do you have baby or nappy to measure? The rise is from top of nappy round to the back of the nappy.

Hi Joeli

Thanks so much for doing this, its just what I need. I've been too terrified to start so far but after making successful Tiny Birds soaker and finding its the only thing I can rely on at night I now need to get on making lots of longies!!

However I am stuck on the swatch

The first thing you need to do is make a gauge swatch. To do this, cast on 20 stitches. Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row. Repeat these two rows until swatch measures a couple of inches long. Now lay your swatch flat on the table (you can take it off the needles) and take a ruler and measure how many stitches are in two inches (this is your gauge). Also consider whether you are happy with the feel of swatch. For example, it might feel really loose and you might see holes between the stitches. If this is the case you should go down a needle size. Or it might feel really stiff and tight. If this is the case you should go up a needle size. If you’re happy then you can rip out your swatch and get ready to cast on for your longies.
Body
Casting On
Now that you’ve got your gauge you can pick a hip size to make. The following table shows your options.
If you cast on 72; 80; 88; 100; 112; 120; 132; 144; 156
you will get a hip circumfrence of
and your gauge is 8 sts per 2": 18"; 20"; 22"; 25"; 28"; 30"; - ; - ; -
9 sts per 2": 16"; 18"; 20"; 22"; 25"; 26.5"; 29"; 32"; -
10 sts per 2": - ; 16"; 17.5"; 20"; 22.5"; 24"; 26.5"; 29"; 31"
11 sts per 2": - ; - ; 16"; 18"; 20"; 22"; 24"; 26"; 28"
12 sts per 2": - ; - ; - ; 16.5"; 18.5"; 20"; 22"; 24"; 26"

Cast on 72(80, 88, 100, 112, 120, 132, 144, 156) stitches.

So if the swatch is too measure the no of stitches in 2'' do I need more than a few rows as its not measuring rows?? This might sound stupid and I'm sorry if i've just completely misunderstood but I have to knit by snatching a minute here and there so don't want to knit extra if I don't have to. So far I have nearly 10 stitches (across) in 2 inches and 7 rows in an inch.

As long as you can get a good stitch count then you're fine, no need to carry on.

Ok so is that counting the stitches across not rows? If so does nearly 10 stitches count as 10? Sorry total novice here, this is my 4th project, 2 soakers on flats and a scarf in progress!

Yup, just counting stitches across. Nearly 10 stitches is good enough.
