The tension stated is actually for aran weight yarn, hense them coming out too small.

I tried using aran for them but found they used up lots of yarn and ended up quite heavy. I used 5.5mm needles with the Double knit I think they come out slightly bigger, but with 5mm its a little smaller.

Bugger I've got some aran weight, I didnt think I could make it in DK, Ah well it will be nice and warm for the baltic weather up here

Im such a donut - Ive bought 3 gorgeous gorgeous skeins of Raspberry Superwash from Beth, but it looks like I need 4 - I must have done the maths with my stoopid head on :giggle: Oh well, I think it will look OK with a plain raspberry hood and trim - plan to start mid July - cant wait :D

That's why I wondered with the total weight. 400g is quite a lot for a 2 yr old to carry around, then Aran is going to be quite thick too, so think I'll go for dk and the riding hood, if less than 400g will do.

Sadie, it will look great with trim. It'll break up the variegation a bit.

Ah but you'll be making a smaller size, so much less yarn, lol. Depends how the weight is spread out as well.

Looks fab! I'm at exactly the same stage. Got held up while I worked out how to do provisional cast-on
