Those are both gorgeous! Hmm, other projects... hats? socks? cardigans or jumpers? Everything looks better in hand-dyed wool :D

ok probably a really blonde question but how do you dye different colours into the same wool? and also does anyone know if its possible to dye acrylic wool? I started off making soakers out off acrylic because my son was allergic to lanolin and didn't want a reaction when he plays with his sister. However I have since discovered that he may now be allergic any more because he was playing with a friends baby who was in wool that had been freshly lanolised with no reaction :D now though I have several balls of plain block coloured acrylic wool and would like to make the kids something for xmas.

If it's pure acrylic, it definitely won't dye, unfortunately. It's great that your son has got over his lanolin allergy though :D

Still wondering though how do you dye different colours into a ball?

Right, we're (the boys) having a go at this today, dyeing yarn. Yarn, food colouring and white vinegar at the ready. The only bit I'm a little confused about is how to tell if the dye is fully absorbed when using a steamer? Where am I looking to see if the water runs clear?

Are you going to wrap it in clingfilm? I wait until it has cooled and then if you squish it and pull the clingfilm away from the wool a bit you can see whether the water inside is clear or not

If you are just doing it in a bowl above the steamer then the water in the bowl would be clear once all the dye has absorbed.
