There is a reason I don't make cakes :( they all sunk in the middle, will give them to the birds

Sounds like it might be your oven. Was it preheated long enough? Also, does it seal shut ok? Did you open it to peek halfway through?

How long did you bake them for at at what temp? I use an oven thermometer (from Lakeland I think) so that I don't have to rely on the dial on my oven as they are always a bit out.

yes i did have a peek as we have to add longer to the cooking time than is suggested for everything. It was pre heated and seal properly, guess I shouldn't have looked but they had started to sink before then :(

I could make some butter cream and plop it on the top maybe. Needn't have bothered buying the jubilee butterflies for the top

have got the oven at about 170 (brownies are cooking nicely) I used Louises recipe but there is no times or temps on it, ahh well lesson for the day is don't make cakes stick to brownies

Overfilled cases can lead to sinking too, basically there isn't enough foundation to support the puff! Or too much raising agent can do it too, as they puff up then flop. I bet they still taste lovely though, so decorate and enjoy!

:hohoho: thank you for cheering me up. I took one apart and they are nice and fluffy.

So how does every one make their buttercream? The kids can do that bit
