Can a 3year old have growing pains.

Postby tracedw » Thu May 17, 2012 8:00 am

Conan had 2 episodes yesterday of clutching his left leg and howling in pain for about 10 mins, he hasn't had a injury or accident, there is no swelling or bruising and the pain seemed to go away as quickly as it arrived.
The pain seemed to be more from the tibia bone rather than the ankle or knee.
My mind automatically thought the worse case senario, it was midnight and i was tired.

My now 8 yr old did suffer with growing pains but not until he was a bit older, any ideas ladies.

Harry was around that age when he had them, so it definitely could be.

Yes! Harrison is nearly 5 but gets them every few months or so , always at evening/night and it lasts about a week...hes been having them for over a year and is currently having them right now :-( I spent between 3 and 5 am this morning hunched up on his bedroom floor rubbing his legs and trying to doze as when he's like this he's too upset to sleep in with us.

  they Are horrible things for them so young bless them

My Orla (just turned 4) gets this too sometimes, always at night, always a leg or foot. Wakes her up and she's inconsolable, but it vanishes the next day. It does worry me, but as it's so inconsistent I figure it's growing pains.

my 4 y.o nephew has been suffering really badly recently with this. The doc has prescribed ibuprofen gel. It seems to help a bit.

Thanks ladies, you have put my mind at ease.
I''ll see what happens over the next few days, what bothers me more is that it is just one leg not both.
 to all the little ones out there going through this, its hard to watch and not being able to help them.

Yes def can get growing pains. I put a lavender heat bag on dd 's legs at night.
If its sharp and on one leg , as last above says, it could be cramp.
