Bedwetting

Postby moonfruit » Sun May 24, 2009 6:55 pm

Imogen has been dry in the day since before she was 2 but we have really struggled at night. She is still having to wear pull ups, and most nights she is wet through by morning. I have to change her bed 3 times a week most weeks, and most mornings she has to change her pj bottoms.

I have tried restricting drinks but am really not happy doing that. I have tried lifting her at various times. I have also tried letting her go without a nappy. But nothing seems to make a difference :-?

Part of my thinks it will happen when she is ready physically, but her friends are starting to talk about sleepovers and there is a school trip in November than involves an overnight stay. I don't want to make a big deal of it but I also don't want to not be pro-active enough.

any advice or assureances that Imogen isn't the only one would be gratefully received.

p.s. Can anyone suggest a cloth version of the huggies dry nites? Anything that even vaguely resembles a nappy is a no no I'm afraid :(

I had this problem with Connor who is now 7 1/2 he has only just stopped bedwetting in the last month. I think with some children it just happens when they are ready. My other 3 boys were all dry by 2 1/2 but Connor just couldn't do it. We used pyjama pants and never made a big deal about it, kept trying on and off for a long time but he was never ready. I read a few online sites that were helpful but can't remember what they were, just google bedwetting or nocturnal enuresis. With some children it's lack of a hormone and some are just such heavy sleepers, I think Connor was both. Try not to worry as it just makes them more stressed so more likely to wet the bed.
HTH a little :D

My DS2 is 10 and still bedwetting. He does become quite 'down' about it all. We have tried tablets from the doctors which were not especially successful and also a couple of alarms which both broke! A lot of people do have success with tablets (desmopressin) and/or alarms so may be worth investigating these for Imogen.
As for cloth version of pull ups, there's not much out there. In the past have used Eenee undies with a bamboo prefold and Happy Heinys pocket trainers xl and xxl, but don't use anything now, just have a waterproof sheet on top of his normal bedding and I get him up at about 11.30 to go for a wee. I keep hoping he will grow out of it, at the moment he is a very heavy sleeper which is part of the problem I think

  must be tough for older kids who want to do the whole sleep over thing, they have enough to worry about these days, I wouldn't be surprised if stress from school work etc plays a part in bed wetting for a lot of older children out there. No advice though just want to send some
