Where do you keep lo's 'artwork'?

Postby Amanda » Wed Dec 16, 2009 12:13 am

We have a wall in the dining room dedicated to Connor's drawings and paintings, but we also have a large plastic box on the dining table filled with more stuff. Once it goes on the wall either Connor or I don't want to take it down so it's very difficult to get more pictures up there! It's worse now as he's been doing alot of 'box modelling' at preschool lately - basically sticking boxes together, painting them, sticking bits of paper to them, etc. Preschool was swamped with cardboard boxes as everyone's recycling bins were full due to the strike here so I think they've been getting the children to make things out of them at any available opportunity!

Does your lo notice if you through things out? And what do you do with it all?! I reckon I could chuck the stuff from the bottom of the box and Connor wouldn't know to ask about it, but usually when I try to do that I get all sentimental and can't bring myself to do it  :giggle:

Joshua and Anna each have a box too with almost all of their art work in since they were born  And like Connor we went through a stage with Joshua where he would bring back a decorated box from kinder. But I've thrown almost every single ones of those - taking off any pieces of fabric or bits that can be re-used for crafty things at home
Just need to be ruthless otherwise the house would end up completely inundated with 'art'. If they have done anything special (eg for xmas, easter etc) or something particularly nice I keep it, any odd scribbles or random sticky pictures get thrown.

He was actually given a folder with more of his artwork from kinder today (last day before the summer holidays 8) ) with empty pockets at the back for what he had already taken home, so I'm going to sort through his box and put those things in there for him to keep.

Once Dawns at preschool, I'm going to buy those sugar paper scrapbooks and cover them in pretty paper/fabric and line them up on a shelf or something and glue her pics in them :giggle: Is it sad that I've thought about this already? :giggle:

At the moment, I stick anything really cute under our stairs (they go over our kitchen so we have a little slanty wall bit lol)

A mum at school had a really good idea for this sort of thing, everytime her LO brought art things home they take a photo of it, keep the piece for a few days and then sick the photo into a big scrapbook.

Most of it is kept for a few days and then goes in the big round 'filing cabinet' in the corner  :giggle:

I only keep special pieces and use a folder thingy that one of her bookstart packs came in... :)

we keep the best bits, but my older daughter always brings home great stuff! (she's on the gifted and talented register for her art work) so we keep her favourites. my son though draws well under par for his age so we keep alot more of his work in a box, as it's very rare we see him make anything!

I am quite ruthless and will only keep things that seem special - these I actually laminate though  and I store them in a nice box in their rooms.

I did have a display of Charlotte's best work on her wall in the old house but of course that got packed up so I think we will start that up again in the new year.

Also there is a nice big wall in the kitchen so when that is finished I think I will start putting things up there.

We put things on the wall in the kitchen although Zach isn't really into painting and things. He hasn't brought much home from nursery. The stuff we get so far tends to be large peices of paper with brown paint on (as he mixes all the paint together :hohoho: ). If he does anything really special I keep it but otherwise it goes in the bin :giggle:

I think I'll get a scrapbook soon though for a few things and also nursery have a folder that they put some things in which I assume we get at the end of the foundation stage.

I think Ben is going to be the same - Charlotte loves writing and drawing and painting - she could paint all day! and is always bringing home creative things. But Ben is so totally different, can't even hold a pencil when Charlotte could by his age and is just not interested in drawing at all so I imagine we won't be getting too much from him. He is definately more a physical child.
