Lethargy......?

Postby Annette » Mon Jan 04, 2010 8:57 am

OK so I just wanted to see what people think.

Charlotte seems to be tired alot of the time. For the last few weeks she has been going to bed at 7pm pretty much every day apart from New Years Eve when it was 8.45pm and she was literally falling asleep on the floor despite her friends being here running around and she practically begged to go to bed. She always sleeps for 12+ hours sometimes not getting up until 8.30am. But for example yesterday she was up at 7.30am having slept right through and we went to meet friends at soft play at 10am, by 11am she was sat on my knee looking knackered, we had to leave soon after as Ben was also getting ready for a nap. She had eaten cornflakes before we went and then had beans on toast while there so I don't think it is connected to food. She does tell me she is hungry alot but I think this is more to do with the fact there has been alot of yummy food around lately so she will say she is hungry when really I think she just wants chocolate - she only has a little piece each day though. We came home and although she won't sleep in the day, she will want to lay on the sofa quite a bit.

I suppose I just wondered whether people think I should be concerned, as I say it has sort of seemed to get worse in the last couple of weeks and it just doesn't seem normal compared to her friends who are still running around. We have only been up a couple of hours and she is already telling me she is tired and she does look tired :-?

I don't know - maybe she is having a growth spurt hence the hunger :-?

I don't know whether to be worried or I am just finiding it annoying that she is always too tired to do anything. WDYT?

I think if she's markedly more lethargic compared to her friends then a trip to the GP is probably in order...

Isabelle can't really cope past 7pm in the evenings at the moment (I'd put her to bed at 5.30pm if it didn't mean she'd be up at 5am!) and does get tired when we're out but would carry on running about lots...

Lana is exactly the same as this.
She constantly says she's hungry but like you say I think its because she wants chocolate. She eats well and plenty.
She doesn't have a nap anymore but has quite time lay on the couch. She always says she's tired. even now she is saying she is tired.

I thought it might be a grwoth spurt.

WTS

I had a similar thing with Caden a while ago, he always complains of being tired and looks shattered too - he had a heart scan (has a murmur) to check everything was ok, and also had his bloody sugars tested, but all was fine, its just the way he is - get her in for a bit of an MOT, im sure shel be fine

This is it, I am sure she is fine, and it does seem other people's children are the same, but you just never know do you :-? Need to drop the registration forms at the new docs this afternoon and make an appointment for Ben's swine flu jab as he has been called for that. So might make an appt for Charlotte at the same time and see what they say.

Could she be growing? TBH Kieran and Anna look worse now than they did at the end of the school term, they are so pale and tired all the time with big black eyes.

No harm in getting her checked out though. I am going to start giving Kieran and Gracie minadex now to help them get over being ill. x

It could be lots of things or it could be nothing at all. It's probably worth getting your GP to check just in case. The sorts of things the GP might look for are a growth spurt, anaemia, SAD (seasonal adjustment disorder), illness, enlarged tonsils or adenoids causing obstructive sleep apnoea, poor diet (or poor absorption) etc.

Zach tells us he is tired all the time  He won't sleep later than 7 really whatever time he goes to bed and sometimes its 6.30. I think he needs longer but its still at least 11 hours sleep so it does suprise me.

The food thing is driving me mad, he is always after food :-? I run out of ideas and he just mithers and mithers. He eats really good meals too, its worse after nursery as he doesn't seem to eat from the snack table while he is there
