student support center

has anyone heard of them or used them? a man has just been to the house to assess the boys then they provide dvds, online support system to help their learning :-? you have access to a teacher most of the time and online tutorials to help with homework aswell as the structured course that takes the boys about 1 hr a week to do. it did look good but you had to sign up to 4 years- so now i am unsure and thinking of cancelling :-?

we got leaflets through about them from school,
it was a monthly fee - more than we could afford, so never looked further
4 years is a long time to commit too though.......

there are lots of internet sites that have homework help on anyway,
does your school give out homework? if thats not enough they could point you in the direction of more [books/internet] or set more.
it sounds a bit like distance learning, how motivated would they/you be to keep it up?
can you cancel before the 4 years?

i have researched it further and i am going to cancel- there is no way of backing out if you don't like it after the initial cool off period- which it is v unclear about in the paperwork but i think is 5 days :-?  looking at the internet reviews most people were v angry that they ended up tied into something that after the first few weeks they never used

i think they are playing on peoples worries and if it was pay monthly i would be interested in trying it but i don't feel like commiting to something for that long

if there was a particular area of concern that you have, would you consider a tutor for short periods if necessary, cost may not be much different, and face to face tution has got to be worth more and be more effective than what that sounded like.

i know my kids get so much homework theres no time for more, though for a couple of years my eldest went to a specialist teacher as he is dyslexic.

Frankly that sounds very dodgy. The quality of the tuition may be good, but a reputable company would not insist on tying you in for four years
