Potty training and temper tantrums

Postby JulieJesta » Tue Dec 07, 2010 12:50 am

My little jen now uses nappies only half the time and loo/potty the rest. BUT he's funny about it, won't use potty for daddy, and only uses loo for me. normally not a big problem, but if i'm busy he'll stubornly wet himself. this evening wee'd on his jeans as i was busy in kitchen, despite being inches from potty, and at dinner he wee'd at table..... didn't even know until i saw the cushion. :( what can i do about this backwards progress? he was doing so well.

also hes realllllllllllllly pushing to see what he can get away with, and he's violent! for example, i'll be getting him breakfast and he'll say "no mummy, i havin' choclate for breakfast" and he will run at me and slap me. i try to ignore, but he'll kick me instead then.

I've tried ignoring, tried saying politely no, tried shouting back, tried just leaving his breakfast on table and walking away........ i just dont know what to do. He needs to stop it, hes been this way about 1 to 2 months now. It upsets me, feel like i'm failing.

Anywho, advice welcomed. :)

Personally I'd try potty training another time as he sounds like he's not quite ready to me. Whenever I've potty trained its done within a week or two and then thats it.

As for the behaviour, how old is he? My little boy is almost 3 and hes really testing us right now. If he hits then he is removed from the situation (we have a time-out step) and must say sorry before he rejoins us. He's pretty remorseful and is beginning to understand others feelings too.
I wont tolerate hitting/kicking/biting from any of my children and i dont think its something's you can ignore but you have to follow the same routine everytime so that he understands that what he's doing isn't acceptable. Its so hard though, once they're over one phase they're on to another.

hello, jen is nearly 2 and a half.
at times he's lovely, hugging on sofa now. :) i think i'll get a chair (our stairs not a safe option) and try it. thank you.

with potty training his brother was slow too. jen knows how to, and mostly wants too but then has his really cant be bothered days. out and about he'll use public loos and tells me with a pretty good warning time - about 10 mins sometimes can wait more.... ie walking to a shop i know has a loo! with his big brother we were lucky to get 1 min warnings!
