Cinema

Postby Kirstyh » Wed Feb 23, 2011 1:02 pm

Just following on from something Nic mentioned on FB
What age do you think it is ok and most of all safe to let your children go to the cinema along (drop off and pick up) with pals? I have talked about it with a few people and 12-13 seems to be a good age. It isn't that I don't trust K at nearly 10 but it is the other weirdos that frequent these places. We have done the don't talk to, go off with strangers talk of course years ago and countless times since. The thought of our kids frightened in the dark or trapped in a loo is the worst ever.

So what does every one think?

I would say 13 ish. A 10 year old can only see U films withough a parent anyway so other than any safety implications I wouldn't see the point of them going with friends.

I've not thought about it as mine aren't anywhere near old enough yet. But it is an interesting quesion, i am trying to remember when I went on my own, certainly by the time I was 13. I suppose it depends alot on who they are with and whether you know them as well.

I think it depends on alot of things :-?

Where and what the cinema is like
What film they are going to see
Who they are going with
What time of day the film is on etc

My 3 eldest all went to see "gnomio & juliet at the weekend. They are 9, 11 and 15.
Our local cinema is in a very small town and is small, with only one screen (it doubles as a theatre with stage as well) and i am quite happy for them to go there with friends. The film was on at 1.30pm so no late nights. Admittedly on this occasion my eldest went as well but i would have been quite happy for either of the others to have gone with just friends as well.

I am quite happy to let my 11 year old dd go there with friends to watch films (and yes they do let them in to watch cert. 12 films on their own if an adult goes and buys the tickets)

our cinema is a big multi screen one so I wouldn't be comfortable with K going on his own with pals, if say our babysitter was to offer to take them I would be fine with that though, she is just about to turn 16. It is a tough one though eh brought on by the society we live in x

As its a big multi screen, I would probably say 12 if you drop off and collect from the cinema.

I remember going to our little local one with my friends when I was 11 and trying to get in to see The Delinquents with Kylie which I think was the first 12cert :giggle:

- Cinemas are so huge now = they even scare me :lookround:

I have a 9yr old and i certainly wouldnt trust her on her own without an adult in a cinema, she would prob get lost or something and its the not knowing who else is in there which worries me not what she would do. I would prob think around the 13 age but will see if i still think that in a few yrs lol
