Night Terrors!

Postby AlterKnits » Tue Mar 01, 2011 6:29 pm

Was wondering if anyone could help me?

My 5 year old as started suffering with really bad night terrors, and for the past 3 nights has been waking up on average about 10 times a night! When he wakes up he starts crying, but when we go in to him he starts screaming hysterically and cowering to the corner of his bed and puts his arms over his head as if he's trying to protect himself :(

It takes us ages to calm him down, and when we ask him about it in the morning he cant remember doing it!!

I dont know what to do! My friend says he'll just grow out of it, but it's horrible seeing/hearing him like that!

If anyone has any advice I'll be grateful! x

My ds has these. Its worse when he's had alot on so I try and stay in a bit, let him veg out for a few days if he starts to have them (he tends to get several nights in a row). Has yours had a change in routine/been doing alot recently/had a developmental stage?

The only thing I can think of is his step brother went back home at the weekend and they share a bunk bed together? x

Maybe try having a chat with him about his step brother then and how he's feeling? It might not be that, and tbh I'm always guessing with ds. But they definitnely come and go in phases. He had a phase a couple of weeks ago of them every night.

He didn't have them last night, so I'm hoping the phase has by-passed for now! :D

Please excuse me not re-writing on here, but I'm one handed propping up my sleeping boys head on my shoulder :giggle:

Hope he doesn't have any more

Not had any experience of them but they sound awful. Mt friend was telling me about her daughter yesterday who gets really bad terrors and she was saying that if she has a lot going on she gets them so she keeps thing calm and quite before bed, no TV and as little stimulation as possible xx
