Teatime histrionics!

Postby northernruth » Wed Jun 01, 2011 5:23 pm

We have had this a couple of times now - saying she is too tired to eat or that her legs hurt (her legs often do hurt, she suffers with growing pains). It can quickly develop into borderline hysteria, with her gasping for breath, she was eventually sick on holiday, she says she can't stop crying and is sobbing etc. Tonight it started as I put her tea in front of her (she had been happily drawing a minute before) and was soon a full on meltdown.

It's not that she's having a paddy about the food, and it only happens when she's tired, but I deliberatly made exactly what she asked for tonight and it's not been touched. I worry if she goes to bed without food she'll wake up hungry.

And she had a nap on the way home!!!

Alesha does this aswell, i just take the food away, and leave her to calm down, sometimes she wants to be left alone other times she wants cuddles,
then shortly before bed i will offer her a glass of milk and some crackers just so she isnt going to bed on a empty tum, x

Maddy was like that tonight too. Her school tour was today so she was knackered. I've sent her to bed with a snack so that should keep her going until morning.

I think it's just when she is overtired.........I just hate that she plays up to avoid eating when I know that eating would make her feel less knackered!!! :x

What about bringing her tea time forward a bit?

It's only really when we have been out so it's probably a bit later to start with.......I tried to head it off tonight by letting her chill on the sofa for half an hour but then of course it made it later, but I let her choose exactly what she wanted (spaghetti with butter and cheese) so she wouldn't kick off!!!

This, if i know that Megan is shattered then i do tea before she starts the downward slope to meltdown...once she gets like that she just cant eat...some days i do 'tea/dinner' at 4.30pm which might seem early but 5pm is sometimes just too late for her and she eats better a little before :)

Maybe here sugar levels just plummet, K can have really low levels in the morning and I used to give him one of those dextrose sweets.
 Must be hard though when you know she needs to eat but won't x
