Long hair on boys - style, or just let it grow?

Postby Mareth » Wed Jul 20, 2011 2:39 pm

Rhys has decided he wants his hair long, absolutely fine with us. But I'm just wondering, those of you with (young) boys that have long hair, do you have it cut into a style, or just let it grow out?

He's currently looking rather messy  but I can't decide whether that's all part of the charm LOL

Kais is a grown out faux-hawk atm- it's to his shoulders at the longest bits & has an apparently 'Beiber-ish' fringe - will try & add a pic....

So yes I style his hair long just to make it organised mess, lol!!

All 3 of my boys have had long hair which generally was just trimmed a bit at the ends and usually they had a fringe too, none of them ever had their hair cut short as babies, i just let it grow until shoulder length ish.
Sadly once they start school it gets cut off to regulation just above collar length, they do keep their hair on the longer side though especially in the holidays.
DS3 currently has quite long blond curls and is always mistaken for a girl despite the fact he has never worn a skirt or pink :giggle: people just look at the hair.

Tallin has hair past his shoulders (probably armpit length  ), no fringe. He's growing has gone through various stages, never really styled. Ocean's is a mass of curls, sometimes it looks relatively tidy, other times it's a mop  Neither of them have ever had it properly cut, only ever trimmed. It's never been short.

My eldest always had his hair shaved short until a couple of years ago, when he decided to grow it. He has very thick hair, so it went through a stage of looking like a huge helmet, it was awful, but we persevered and now it really suits him. He gets comments on his 'epic hair' and has developed a patented 'hair flick' which he feels makes him look very cool! Every so often I hack at it with scissors, just to shape it a bit, trying hard to avoid the 'just cut look'. Seeing as he is 15, I am amazed that he lets me come anywhere near his hair! :giggle:

I like it long but styled, fringe and layers round the front, sort of surfer boy cool

I like that too, getting my hairdresser to do it though, is another matter. Plus Tallin's hair is pretty thick and has a slight wave.

My bigger boy has 'long' hair or hair that's long for a boy. It grows, he disappears under it, I chop some off and layer it a bit and then it grows again :giggle: He loves it longer and hates that boy's are expected to have short hair. People always comment on how lovely it must be for me to have 4 girls. I have 2 boys and 2 girls but a the pp said, people just look at the hair (and the baby is just a beautiful boy, so people say he must be a girl  ) Luckily, my ds1 doesn't mind if people assume he's a girl because he is very happy knowing he's a boy! (He so doesn't look like girl :giggle: )
