I am no expert on ADHD but I have worked with SEN children. They could be watching it incase it is an obsessive behaviour or a precursor to a specific behaviour.
Just bear in mind that they spend very little time observing him compared to your knowledge of him and the time his teacher spends with him. They will note any possible concerns so they have a record of it for further observations. Also remember that they can be over cautious in order to cover themselves in the future. If they dont flag it now and someone wants to know why they didnt, in the future, then they are accountable for failing to flag the behaviour.
Hope that makes sense.
You know him better than anyone

Thank you :D

Had a letter today to say we have his communication and development meeting next tuesday. I'm kind of half happy (as we were initially told it could take up to 2 years  and has only been about 8 months), and half scared stiff. Any idea what we should expect? It says in the letter it will include a long and in-depth interview with us, i'm scared i won't be able to find the words to put across how hard his behaviour is for all of us, and how it is affecting him :(

Just give as many examples as you can think of in your own words.

There are lots of things here that will give you an idea of what they want to hear about.

Morag thank you so much for that link. I am having to go to the GP again to get a referral for Kyle and on reading that I had a smile on my face that Im not being a stupid mother who is mistaking normal kids behaviour for something else. He is a lot of the things on those lists esp the impulsive ones. I am going to forward it to my mum and a couple of friends who have been helping us lately.

Thank you for the link! Keane has/does so many of the things on that list, i was reading it and nodding along. Even down to the being creative and thinking of things others don't because he sees things differently, his teacher basically said the same thing (and it is also in the report from his observation).

I feel kind of like i'm betraying him when we go to these appointments, like i'm slating my little boy and picking up on all the bad things about him :( Its good to know i can give them a positive example too.

There are LOTS of positive things about ADHD. Your DS is not broken, he just thinks differently - some would say better. :D

hi my dd age 12 has adhd and was diagnosed age 8,it is very hard work especially in the early days when ur not quite sure whats wrong.things do get better,i have found that being very strict has helped, they need to know the bounderies more so that 'normal' kids.she has medication for during school days,i didnt want her on meds wkends and holidays.this works well for us although if she has singing concerts etc we give her then as well.u will have to do a conners report,so will teachers this will let them know to what extent the adhd is,my dd was off the carts to begin with and now with her meds is classed as 'normal'.people are surprised at how well behaved she is but that is mainly down to years of strict parenting on my part as was a single mum untill she was 10!give them an inch and they will take a mile  and amazing liers.she is now very popular and always invited to friends houses, there mothers always comment on how polite she is,and well behaved.if u need advice or just to vent to someone who understands feel free to get in touch

Well we had his Communication and Language appointment. It went well :wine: They have said that although he has some problem areas he didn't score high enough to be labelled as ASD. We knew that anyway, but it was nice to hear them say it :D It was literally to get the ball rolling and try and hasten our appointment with CAMHS. They did give us some suggestions for helping him with his problem areas, which is a positive step. But it is all about waiting for CAMHS now :-? They are apparently very behind (we were quoted 2 years for an appointment initially  ) but have recently employed two extra drs to try and clear the backlog, so hopefully it shouldn't be long now. Its been 8 months since his first consultant appointment :-?
