Not sure what age I'll move Lucas but I have a few similar questions so shall go start a thread rather than hijack yours :giggle:

Hijack away! I don't mind you probably have similar questions!

More questions from me:

Do you think she'll get out when she wants? Dh has images of her at midnight running round her room playing :giggle: I can't see that personally but at 6 in the morning, hmm  but then again I suppose it's just like with the cot; go tell her to go back to sleep.

Also do they move around less in a bed?
and did you go straight to a normal single duvet and pillow or one of those little sets, I'd prefer a normal one tbh?

Ooo this is exciting! :giggle: :night:

T goes sleep in the evening and doesnt wake til morning (7 ish) but if he gets up earlier and doesnt fancy going back to sleep I get up anyway.
T can move around loads (ie from one end of the bed to the other!) but he doesnt fall out/off the beds as hes used to where the 'sides' are so somehow avoids toppling off. T doesnt have a pillow on his bed and has a quilt that fits it (its a cotbed sized one) but he sleeps with his legs on top of it if he sleeps on there anyway! At her age I think you will be fine with either, C had a normal single duvet and pillow when he went into his bed.

Tyler is still in his cot bed as a cot as he has loads of room in it and is still happy to sleep in it! When we find out what this baby is in October we are going to decorate his room and change the cot bed into the toddler bed so he will be 2 years 9 months x

We're wondering this as the Mouse is in her cot and the new baby will obviously need it, but we don't want there to be too obvious a link (i.e. baby taking her bed away). As far as I remember, the Mouse moved from moses basket to cot at about 5 months, so realistically, it wouldn't be until this time next year that we would need the cot. I always planned to leave her there until she started trying to climb out, which has never been an issue.

I think we want to take the dummies away first (which we will do at Christmas, as Father Christmas needs to give the dummies to little babies), so she gets used to sleeping without the dummy, and I think that if we do it the other way round she'd loose her dummies more often!). So I guess it'll be in February around her third birthday that we take the sides off the cot, and then later in the year we'll give her a new bed and give the cot to the baby.

Anyway, excuse my totaly pointless ramblings, which have no bearing on the thread other than to say, only do it when you feel it's ready, or if you really need to (i.e. climbing thing).

I did have one question, though - do you think we'd need a stairgate at the top of the stairs (we've never had one, but I'm worried she'll try the stairs without being properly awake) or maybe one accross the doorway? (more selfish, really, as it will stop her coming in our room).

This is probably the main reason that Tyler is still in his cot bed as he would have walk past the top of the stairs to get to our room and I am scared that he may fall down half asleep but really don't want a stair gate if I can avoid it! We are planning to use the bed part of his cot for him so getting a new cot for the baby.

I hate with a passion stairgates across kids doors that they cant open so Id go for putting one across the top of the stairs as a 'just incase'. Where I am now I cant fit a stairgate at the top or bottom of the stairs (stupid house) so its gateless but T sleeps in the same room as me so I wake if he gets up or opens the bedroom door and the stairs arent close by...but if I COULD put a gate there I would.

Lol this made me giggle

Well we have Lily's door shut at night and we use the monitor, we've never left it open because of the cats and noise from downstairs if it woke her, so in our case I wouldn't worry but if you leave the door open then I would get a stair gate, you don't want to find she's been practising the stairs while you snooze.
I don't think I'd have the stairgate across her door but then again I do keep the door closed so maybe I'll just shut up on that one :giggle:
Do what you think is best hun, maybe she won't get up or maybe she'll play with her toys instead :wine:

Lovely thanks for all the responses, we're going to fish out the big single bed and get a new mattress and see how she does :wine:
