Anyone used Babeco cotton velour nappies?

Postby Frances » Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:51 pm

They're still on sale and I'm thinking about buying three and dyeing them. How are they for absorbency? Thanks!

I've got 4 now - the 4th because I wasn't happy with 1 of the 3 (its in private about a new nappy).

They seem to be great nappies in terms of absorbancy and they haven't even been prewashed that much, however I am not in love with them just yet, apart from when it comes to night nappies - they are very generously cut and poppered (size 2's, so to me think baggy MEOS), But when I have put boosting on the inside - so far tried the 6 or 8 layer bamboo and same again hemp hourglass boosters from babeco have been just GREAT.

Don't know how they look dyed as I haven't got that far yet.

i got 3 of those to dye as well! :D i agree they are ike baggy MEOS, theyre adjustable with poppers in the same way (except the reason theyre cheap is because they dont seem to be "perfect" ones. they very usable, but some poppers seem a tiny bit wonky and the stitching and binding is a bit dodgy ar times! i dyed one successfully, although the dye worked great, my colour pattern idea did not go to plan lol :hohoho: ive now got a lovely burgandy coloured nappy!

they seem really soft, but my only worry about them is that the leg bindings seem quite stiff and im worried they'll rub DD's legs :? xx

Thanks Gayle - I'm not sure if there's a way to soften up cotton velour?? Bergundy is lovely anyway, perhaps we can share pics when I've had a go!

Ecover fabric softener (shh!)... I put half a capful in with my nappies once, just to try it because I was a little disappointed with my OBV nappies going crunchy, and I've never looked back. The bottle says to use up to 2 caps per load but I don't think anything like that much is necessary, and I gather because it's not petroleum-based it doesn't do any harm to nappies - it certainly hasn't had any effect on mine in 8 months apart from making them wonderfully scrummily soft!

glad its not just me who think they are baggy! And especially not quite perfect with the snap placements, they all seem a little wonky to me, but I didn't complain about those, just the resewn hole in one of them. Still make great night nappies and day nappies are OK but still not raving about them.

They arrived today and I'm very impressed - a little high on the tummy but that's my only niggle. And the one I've dyed as a trial has come out lovely :D

the fabric is fine...very squishy in fact :D its just the leg bindings that i think might leave red marks! havent got round to trying them yet, i dont think theyre gonna be a favourite nappy but they look nice so will try them tomorrow! xx
