Hmm so even if someone sends you a gift you techincally still have to pay some sort of charges on it?

Personally it wouldn't put me off buying from the States, the risk seems to be quite small and the biggest charge likely seems to be the RM one

I think there are different rules for gifts, but only a higher allowance! I think anything over £40 is VAT chargeable as opposed to £18 for non-gifts.

I ordered from Goodmama back in August the parcel was stopped at customs and I had to pay VAT & the Parcelforce charge before they would release it to me, I queried the VAT and I was issued a full refund minus the PF charge it took about 4 weeks from the dispatch date to arrival at my door
The value was about 100 US dollars

Oooo well done on getting the refund Weefy! I hear it's quite tough to actually get anything back!

Well, after ALL that stress and debate, they arrived this morning, no problems. I feel a tad silly for stressing so much. I will upload pictures later if anyone is interested.......
