(How) Do you sanitise/sterilise used nappies?

Postby ameliepoulin » Wed Dec 29, 2010 5:34 pm

Hi All,

I was wondering how you sterilise used nappies afer purchasing them, both fitted (bamboo and cotton) and AIOs? If there has been a previous discussion on this, please guide me

Merci,
C.

I just put them in a 60 degree hot wash.

60 wash if they are grim looking then I soak them in the bucket overnight with 30ml washing powder and tea tree oil. An hour or so before they go on a wash half scoop vanish pink. Then I strip wash them with soda crystals. I normally save up preloved purchases till I have a full load for this reason.

I use bio d sanitiser in my nappy wash each time sanitiser at 30 degrees for any thing I buy pre loved I do the same but rinse a lot but only because we can't use any washing powder due to sensitive skin so have to rinsevit our from preloved stuff
I don't soak anything just a cold rinse first in the machine.

What about PUL wraps? Do they withstand high temperatures without getting ruined?

I wouldn't wash pul higher than about 50 but they recommend even lower than that. I also wouldn't soak pul.

Is there a(nother) way to sanitise them?

You just wash them at 40. You dont needto do every nappy wash at 60 only ones where baby has a tummy bug etc to deffo kill germs. A normal long 40 wash is fine to clean your nappies

I would just put them on my usual 60'C nappy wash (with pre-wash and extra rinse).
