Bum Genius leaking after 16 months-gutted

Hi all I'm new here but have lurked for a while before finally becoming brave enough to post! Well, I'm after some advice about my problem with my BG's. We have used BG's on DS since birth (DS is now 16 months old but a small one!) and have never had a problem at all-we LOVE them. That is until now :( Unfortunately DS has started wetting through the BG's even after a short spell in them. It started as a problem when he'd wake up from his 2 hour nap wet so I decided to pop a couple of our cloth wipes in to boost them a bit- well it worked on and off for a while but now we are even getting problems after an hour of use (even when boosted with our small wipes). I have noticed that even though DS has wet trousers the back of the BG insert is barely damp!
I have to say I am devastated as we don't have the money to buy a new set of nappies (especially as I'm 7 wks pregnant with another bundle of loveliness! :D )
Please please please any advise will be treasured! Help help help!!
Thank you for your time
x

The first thing I do when anything PUL leaks is run it through the dryer - tumble drying too often or too hot can damage the PUL, but it's recommended to give it a spin now and again to reseal around the seams. If the inserts aren't wet at the back it sounds to me more like a problem with the PUL than a problem with needing to boost more. A lot of people don't get on with microfibre - you might want to try some hemp and/or bamoo inserts instead - but if you've been getting on fine with it until now I wouldn't have thought that was your problem either.

You could try boosting with something like an Easy Peasy Hemp booster. This will hold a lot more wee than just microfibre or wipes.

Part of the problem could also be coming from the beginning of bladder awareness. My DD started flooding her nappies at about that age.

The last thing I will mention is about either the fleece inside the nappies or the inserts being clogged with either detergent or nappy creams. To test the fleece, hold it under a tap and turn the tap on. The fleece should let the water straight through. If it doesn't, put some washing up liquid on the fleece, rub it in and wash as normal. That will strip any nastiness out of fleece. Inserts can become less absorbant if detergent has built up, so do a strip wash of your inserts. You can do that by either using a full dose of BIO powder and doing lots of rinses, or use your normal amount of powder and fill the conditioner drawer with distilled white vinegar :) Both work.

Ah fantastic- great to have some tips. Thank you for such speedy replys and great support. Will try the tumble trick first and see how we get on- I will let you know how it goes- I have a load to go in machine tonight so will tumble and see!! Fingers crossed x
P.s what did you mean by bladder awareness? Do you mean that they kinda hold on and do it all in one go?

Exactly - doesn't mean you are anywhere near potty training :)

Deffinatly try the easy peasy hemp boosters, they fit in Bg's like a glove under whatever else you have stuffed in there...i use them under bamboo and dont use microfibre at all  Good Luck!

Well we've now tried stripping nappies with white vinegar and tumbling the inserts and it's only partially solve the problem so I think we are going to try different inserts as suggested in last post. Thanks to all. x Fingers crossed

Did you tumble the pockets or just the inserts? It's the pockets that need it, to reseal the PUL.
